Muay Thai

The word muay derives from the Sanskrit mavya and Thai comes from the word Tai. Muay Thai is referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs” or the “Science Of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight “points of contact”, as opposed to “two points” (fists) in Western boxing and “four points” (hands and feet) used in sport-oriented martial arts.

The classes have a friendly and motivating atmosphere to help develop you both physically and mentally. Safety is a top priority at the Renzo Gracie Academy and proper control is emphasized during training.

Those who are interested in enrolling in the beginner “Drill” program at the academy must attend a complimentary one-time introductory class. The 60-minute preparatory class outlines the basics governing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu theory and technique. They are offered every day to those with an appointment and to walk-ins.

Interested students should arrive 15 minutes prior to class time and wear athletic apparel they can move in (i.e. shorts, sweatpants, leggings and a t-shirt).

To attend a trial lesson, please email Professor Rob at RenzoGracieHoboken118@gmail.com

with “INTRO” in the subject line and your availability and contact information in the body, or call (845) 541-8350. All program costs will be quoted in person.
